The worlds tallest mountain was just scaled by Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary. The act had been attempted many times by others although never successful two men were able to pull it off. The pair only spent about 15 minutes on top of Mt. Everest while Hillary photographed Norgay holding an ice ax with the flags of India, Nepal, Britain, and the United Kingdom. The conquest of the achievement was announced on the eve of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.
